You actually can take side-lit portraits by turning the camera vertically with the Lightscoop installed. The mirror will redirect the light to a nearby wall. Some of the nicest shots our users are posting on Flickr are side-lit portraits.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/lightscoop_user/pool

Comment on Sony Model Lightscoop Coming Soon!

Christmas come early! (I designed a similar, well, identical little tool to help my beginners DSLR class!) All we need now is a swivel mechanism so the whole mirror bit of the thing can turn (independently) to the right or left for portrait shots! Might need to be a little larger to accommodate the 'height' of the now vertical flash, but hey, I'd buy it!!

Comment on The simple solution to UGLY flash photos taken with pop-up flash

Hi Ken,
I found a couple articles on your "lightscoop" and am very interested...but I don't have a camera w/ "pop up" flash, only built in (like point and shoot digital camera).

I'm unhappy with the flash (and the results) with these cameras, is there anything I can do to bounce light with a flash like this (vs a pop up flash)?

Please help!!
Thanks,
Katie

Comment on Lightscoop & remote firing with Nikon flash in Commander Mode

Good very!!!

Comment on Look for the Lightscoop at Adorama.com!

Way to go Prof! - Phil

Comment on The end to UGLY flash photos...

Is there anyway that a Scoop would be compatible with my Sony VX2000 video film camcorder? That doesn't mean, of course, that we will necessarily be able to develop one for your camera.

This link on our site addresses the issues involved in bouncing the pop-up flash:
http://www.lightscoop.com/faq/index.php

Keep in mind that there will be some camera models that will never have sufficient power to bounce the light. This is something we have to determine while testing.

I will be providing updates on this blog if you wish to subscribe to follow our progress.

Thanks again for writing -- and happy new year!

Comment on The end to UGLY flash photos...

According to your website, you do not have a lightscoop model specifically for the Sony A100. It's a relatively new camera(formally Minolta) and I wondered if any of the avialable models would fit the Sony?

Comment on The end to UGLY flash photos...

Congratulations!
