Visit the Strobist for Mastering an External Strobe

A new semester is under way, so I've not had time to do any writing for this blog. Since I'm teaching a lighting class this semester, I thought I'd share a valuable resource — one I recommend to my students. The Strobist is a site maintained by professional photojournalist David Hobby of the Baltimore Sun. David is an accomplished shooter who advocates simplicity in lighting... getting dramatic results by using an external flash OFF camera. I spend a lot of time teaching my students techniques like those David showcases on his site. If you're using an external flash, you should check it out.

Of course, a pop-up flash can't be taken off camera. The Lightscoop extends the usefulness of a pop-up flash by allowing shooters to borrow professional bounce techniques that create more natural-looking light.
