Basic Lighting: Lesson 3: The closer the light source, the softer the light

Another page out of the textbook (photos by Ron Bingham, Edging West magazine): Whether the light is direct from the flash, from an umbrella (like the examples below) or from a soft box, the shadows it produces will be SOFTER and less distinct when the light source is near the subject—and sharper and more defined as the light source is moved away.
