Natural light, direct fill, bounce with the Lightscoop

Betsy and I took a break this afternoon at the local coffee shop. It's one of those photographic opportunties she hates — messy hair, no make-up and all that, you know. But when she saw the results of my playing around with the Lightscoop, she said I could use the pictures if I promised to keep them small. So here's the scoop... The first two are shot with available light... nice enough window light in the first one, but I wanted to experiment. I exposed for her face in the next shot, which blew out the rest of the scene. The I tried some fill with the pop-up flash. It's overkill in the first shot, gets better in the next two, but there's also that UGLY black shadow cast by the 14mm lens! Then I bounced with the Lightscoop... and finally got an image more in alignment with the way I actually saw the scene with my eyes.

      Hi, Bob,

I have added you to my notification list so you will be among the first to know when we receive our first shipment. If you subscribe to the blog, you'll also get my updates.

Right now, we are finalizing work on our website, where we'll be selling the Lightscoop. For the time being we only plan to sell on the site, http://www.lightscoop.com. If there's enough demand, we may consider working with distributors and camera stores.

      Thanks again, Bob!

The best thing since RAW. Add me to the list of desparate buyers. And, what does it look like?

Thanks, Erin. You are officially on the list... You can see a picture of the prototype at an earlier post: http://blog.lightscoop.com/2007/04/21/the-simple-solution-to-ugly-flash-photos-using-popup-flash.aspx.

I'm hoping our website will be up by the end of next week...

As for availability, the company producing for us had promised by mid-May, but I'm learning that creating better light is simpler than dealing with suppliers and their over-booked schedules. We are still awaiting our first samples from the factory -- we had expected those last month! I hope you will subscribe to the blog where I will be posting updates, but I will definitely notify you when they come available.

      Ken
